Overview

Saulteau First Nations is seeking a proactive and creative Communications Specialist to lead the development and implementation of a Nation-wide communications strategy. This position plays a key role in ensuring clear, consistent, and culturally respectful communication both internally and externally. The ideal candidate will be experienced in digital media and communications, with a passion for supporting Indigenous communities and a deep appreciation for the values and traditions of Saulteau First Nations..

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for Saulteau First Nations.
  • Coordinate, create, and distribute internal and external communications, including newsletters, announcements, media releases, and reports.
  • Monitor and manage SFN’s social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) to ensure engaging and timely content.
  • Regularly update and maintain the SFN website with current news, events, and community information.
  • Acts as an ambassador and positive role model as a representative of SFN.
  • Support communication needs for Chief and Council, community programs, and administration departments.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure messaging is aligned with organizational priorities and values.
  • Build relationships with local media and partner organizations to promote SFN’s initiatives and successes.
  • Publishes banners and posters as requested.
  • Promotes goodwill of the organization through communication and public relations.
  • Creates awareness within the SFN community of upcoming events, workshops, and meetings.
  • Track engagement analytics and adjust communication strategies as needed.
  • Ensure all communications are respectful of SFN’s cultural values and sensitive to community needs.
  • Uses zoom or other platforms to connect with a broad audience for message delivery.

Ideal Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Web design, or other relevant areas with one (1) year experience in communications, website publishing, maintenance and design.
  • Equivalencies will be considered including certificate in Communications, Marketing, Web design, or other relevant areas with two (2) years experience in communications, website publishing, maintenance and design.
  • Experience using a publishing program.
  • Knowledge of SFN traditions, community and culture is an asset.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Skilled in computer proficiency, MS Word, Excel, e-mail and Power Point.
  • Knowledge with operation of audio-visual resources.
  • Ability to prepare and conduct presentations.
  • Must possess a high level of moral judgment, ethics and personal integrity while handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in all areas of work.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records check.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of reliable vehicle for work-related duties.

Work Conditions

  • This is a full-time position with flexible work options: on-site, remote, or hybrid.
  • May involve extended hours during peak communications periods or special events.
  • Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Occasional overtime.
  • Lifting or moving up to 10 lbs may be required.
