Emergency Notice - COVID-19 Outbreak

Written by

Effective immediately SFN offices are closed to the public.

This is a public notice to alert all Saulteau First Nations members that we are currently experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19 in our area. Numbers are surging daily, and currently the health care system (including the Emergency Departments and ICU) in our region are being overwhelmed with the high numbers of COVID cases.

As of September 9, 2021, the vaccination rates for the first dose in the South Peace Region are at 58%, and 49% for the second dose, which is one of the lowest in the province. The positivity rate of COVID-19 in our area is currently the 2nd highest in the province. These statistics alone prove how crucial is it to get vaccinated. Cases in our area are laboratory confirmed as the Delta variant. The vast majority of cases we are currently seeing are unvaccinated and becoming very ill. Those that are vaccinated can still contract the virus, but symptoms are significantly more mild.

It is important that these statistics and facts are shared with the community so you are all fully informed to protect yourself and your family. Please take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and those around you who may be more vulnerable. Wearing a mask has been proven to slow transmission of COVID-19. Please sanitize your hands, social distance, and ensure that you stay home if you have any symptoms regardless of how mild.

Effective Immediately SFN offices will be closed to the public. Staff will be in office to answer calls and do what we can to support. Programming will be affected as we limit the exposure of staff and community to this variant.

We will reassess the situation in 2 weeks time. If the situation worsens, we may be forced to have further safety restrictions in place.

Please get vaccinated.

Please call the Health Centre (250)-788-7371 to book an appointment for a COVID-19 test.

See the attached data and information for your reference.

Thank you,

Saulteau First Nations
