Governance Department

The Governance Department is a new branch of the Saulteau First Nations Administration. It supports Chief and Council in carrying out their responsibilities to Citizens and ensures that leadership decisions are transparent, accountable, and guided by the Nation’s laws, policies, and cultural values.

Governance strengthens how Saulteau First Nations makes decisions, manages information, and delivers good government for all Citizens. The Department builds the systems, structures, and tools that help Chief and Council lead with unity, integrity, and respect.

As a new Department, Governance is focused on building a strong foundation rooted in community, accountability, and culture. The Department currently oversees Communications, Membership and IRA  and will expand to include Records Management and Grant Writing as new positions are established.

Through policy development, records management, and community engagement, the Governance Department ensures that decisions reflect the voices, priorities, and rights of Saulteau Citizens.

Core Principles

  • Accountability and transparency in all decision-making
  • Inclusion of Citizen voices in shaping Nation priorities
  • Protection of Treaty 8 and Aboriginal Rights and Title
  • Integration of culture, language, and traditional knowledge in governance
  • Sustainable and responsible use of Nation resources

Vision
To support Saulteau First Nations in being the Best Governed Nation — proud, culturally strong, and self-sufficient.
