Job Purpose

The primary focus of this position is to support the staff of Muskoti Elementary School, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the school overall.  This position works under the guidance of regular staff members in the classroom, assisting in the education, development and training of students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program and Student Support

  • Fills in to support staff and students when required.
  • Adhere to the day plan as laid out.
  • Follows directions from the teaching staff.
  • Reinforce learning, assist with assignments in small groups or 1-on-1, and implement curriculum adaptations under teacher supervision.
  • Assist the staff at Muskoti Elementary School (MES) with subject areas, projects, and activities.
  • Assists in the supervision and training of students in the development of life skills and performance of daily activities.
  • Monitor the children's safety, including supervision during playtime, gym, lunch, and recess.
  • Provides ongoing and regular communication about the assigned program to the supervising teacher. Information about a student’s program is treated as privileged and only shared for the purpose of program planning and in the context of that planning.
  • Oversee classroom activities, deliver lesson plans and ensure continued student learning in the event of the teacher’s absence.
  • Assist with planning, preparing, and serving nutritional meals in accordance with food safety regulations for the daily lunch program, including clean-up.
  • Prepare and arrange lesson materials and displays.
  • Clean and sanitize the classroom.
  • All other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school Diploma; preference to Post Secondary Diploma.
  • Education Assistant/Early Childhood Education Certification or a minimum of 2 years of experience with primary and pre-kindergarten children in a learning environment.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks
  • A basic understanding of the FN community, including its history, language, traditions, and culture, is an asset.
  • Valid Food Safe certification is an asset.
  • Experience working in a school environment is an asset.
  • Ability to relate to students and adapt to the environment in the classroom.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and successfully interact with a diverse range of personality types.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a high level of moral judgment for handling confidential information.

Work Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily at the school, with hours set as 8:00-3:30, Monday through Thursday.
  • Travel may be required within the SFN community and the surrounding community.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use a desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Wage Range: $23.07-$25.17
  • This position will start September 2026
