Overview
The Kitchen Prep Helper supports the kitchen team by assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and helping ensure kitchen operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role is responsible for basic food preparation, dishwashing, sanitation, and general kitchen support duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruits
- Prepare basic food ingredients and assist with meal preparation
- Assist cooks with food preparation tasks as directed
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces and work areas
- Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and stock rotation
- Remove garbage and maintain a clean workspace
- Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries and supplies
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and other departments
- Assist with overall kitchen operations during busy periods or staff shortages
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Previous kitchen or food service experience considered an asset but not required
- Food Safe Certification or willingness to obtain
- First Aid Certification considered an asset
- Experience working in a team environment considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License considered an asset
- Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check

Work Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a kitchen environment
- Exposure to heat, kitchen equipment, sharp tools, and cleaning chemicals
- Standing for extended periods and lifting may be required
- Flexible hours may occasionally be required for community events or programs
- Manual dexterity required to operate kitchen equipment and tools
- This is a 20-hour per week position, typically scheduled Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some flexibility may be required to support community events and programs, including food preparation and cooking outside of regular working hours.
- Wage Range: $21.29-$23.42 / Hr
