Job Purpose
The primary focus of the Muskoti Elementary School (MES) Primary Teacher is to foster the intellectual, educational, and social development of children enrolled in school. The incumbent will plan, monitor, and deliver educational services that incorporate current, research-based strategies and programs across the disciplines geared to enhance readiness for further education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program and Student Support
Teaches primary school-aged children, including lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation of the classroom program.
Manages student behavior including age-appropriate classroom discipline.
Creates lesson plans that integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into learning through play and hands-on experiences, in adherence with BC Ministry of Education grade-level requirements.
Introduces children to all subjects utilizing various school programs and teaching methods, and approaches to enhance learning for all students.
Incorporates the cultural curriculum developed by the Cultural Programmer into daily teachings.
Prepares report cards for each term and participates in parent/teacher interviews.
Administers CAT-4 testing at the end of the year.
Participates in creating Individual Education Plans to meet the needs of specific children, meeting with parents and the education team to develop student centric goals. Reviews and adapts learning goals throughout the year to enhance child's progress.
Assists in preparing and arranging lesson materials and displays.
Performs all other duties as required
Other Duties
Assists with office and secretarial duties as required.
Collaborates with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.
Qualifications and Skills
Valid BC Teaching Certificate
High level of professionalism and sound judgement in handling confidential information.
Experience with primary children in a learning environment is an asset
Valid Emergency First Aid & CPR is an asset
Knowledge of FN history, language, traditions, and culture, and the ability to recognize and respect all cultural diversity
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
Work Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the Muskoti Elementary School facility with hours of work set as 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and 8:15 a.m. to 12:15pm on Fridays.
The anticipated start date for this position is September 2026
Travel may be required within the SFN community and surrounding community.
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
