We have received community reports of algae booms within Fire Lake (Moberly Lake) as of August 25 2026.
Our Guardian program has verified this is non-toxic algae but is highly irritating to skin – contact may cause rashes, itches, or blistering. Symptoms are compatible with what is commonly referred to as ‘swimmers itch’.
At this time, we recommend avoiding swimming / recreating / fishing within areas with visible algae. As we are expecting the bloom to continue with warming temperatures, this advisory will remain in place for 7 days.
If you experience any health impacts due to algae exposure first aid recommendations include cool compress to the skin, cool showers or baths, and keeping area of irritation clean and dry until healed. If you experience any significant health impacts – including severe rash, signs of infection, or severe pain – please reach out to your doctor for further consult.
