The Nation would like to send a Huge Thank You to the community volunteers of a 4-day weed picking program held in collaboration with the Lands Department, Capital and Infrastructure & ASKI Reclamation.
ASKi organized this event as part of “Make a Difference Week”, an annual event hosted by the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), where individuals and organizations from across the globe host local restorative events, including weed pulls, seed collections, plantings, and restoration monitoring surveys.
To support Make a Difference Week, manual hand pulling of noxious weeds and invasive species was done within the Civic Core of SFN. This project was the most northern community registered on SER’s website, with the impressive turnout of 20 volunteers in attendance.
In addition to hand picking, the Nation is also working with Aski Reclamation to control the spread of invasive weeds by spraying infested areas within the Agricultural lands. We request the community’s assistance in refraining use within these areas via motorized equipment, (vehicles, UTV/ATV), and thank you for your cooperation.
