Overview
The Economic Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting and administering external industry partnerships and economic land development initiatives on behalf of Saulteau First Nations.
Reporting to the Director of Economic Development, this position focuses on industry-facing coordination, administration of commercial land use agreements, and oversight of economic-related leases and development within designated areas, including the Industrial Park.
This role ensures that partnership agreements, land use arrangements, and commercial development activities are organized, compliant, and aligned with SFN’s economic development objectives. The position works closely with Lands, Finance, Infrastructure, and external partners to support responsible and sustainable economic growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
Industry Partnerships & External Relations
- Act as a primary administrative contact for industry partners, investors, and external stakeholders engaged in commercial development on SFN lands.
- Coordinate and support partnership discussions, meetings, and follow-up actions as directed by the Director of Economic Development.
- Maintain organized records of partnership agreements, correspondence, and development documentation.
- Support implementation of commercial partnership initiatives once strategic direction has been established by the Director.
Commercial Land Development Administration
- Administer economic-related land use applications for commercial, industrial, recreational, and other approved development purposes.
- Process and manage commercial leases, permits, allotments, and related documentation in accordance with SFN policies and applicable legislation.
- Oversee administration of the Industrial Park, including lease agreements, renewals, compliance tracking, and coordination with tenants.
- Monitor timelines, documentation requirements, and compliance obligations related to commercial land agreements.
- Coordinate with Lands Department to ensure alignment between land governance requirements and economic development objectives.
Negotiation & Agreement Support
- Coordinate background research, documentation, and internal review processes related to commercial agreements and joint initiatives.
- Support negotiation processes by preparing summaries, tracking revisions, and coordinating legal or financial review as required.
- Ensure finalized agreements are properly executed, documented, and monitored.
Project Coordination
- Support the implementation of industry-led development projects from approval through operational stages.
- Track project milestones, reporting requirements, and deliverables related to commercial developments.
- Identify and escalate risks, delays, or compliance concerns to the Director as appropriate.
Food Sovereignty and Food Security
- Support economic development initiatives that strengthen food sovereignty and food security within the Saulteau First Nations community.
- Identify and help coordinate opportunities for community-based agriculture, local food production, and food-related economic development on SFN lands.
- Work with the Lands Department and other internal departments to identify lands that may be suitable for community gardens, greenhouses, small-scale agriculture, or other food production initiatives.
- Support partnerships with community members, local producers, and external organizations that advance sustainable food systems and local food access.
- Assist in the development and administration of land use arrangements or agreements that support food production and community food initiatives.
- Track and report on food-related land use initiatives and partnerships that contribute to long-term community food security.
Internal Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Lands, Finance, Infrastructure, Housing, and other departments to ensure coordinated project execution.
- Support cross-departmental information sharing related to commercial development initiatives.
- Assist with preparing internal summaries and reports related to land development and partnership activities.
Reporting and Accountability
- Maintain accurate and confidential records related to leases, land agreements, and partnership arrangements.
- Assist in preparing updates and reports for leadership regarding commercial land development activity and partnership status.
- Ensure administrative processes support transparency, accountability, and compliance with applicable requirements.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Economic Development, Land Management, Planning, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in economic development, land administration, commercial leasing, or partnership coordination.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is an asset.
- Experience reviewing or administering commercial agreements is an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract.
- Can provide satisfactory criminal record check with the vulnerable sector.

- Ability to coordinate multi-party projects and follow through on timelines and commitments.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills suitable for industry and government interactions.
- Working knowledge of commercial leases, land development processes, or partnership agreements.
- Ability to collaborate across departments while maintaining defined role boundaries.
- Cultural awareness and respect when working within a First Nations governance context.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Willingness to work flexible hours when required. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive and trusting working relationships.
- Ability to perform with integrity, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy even in stressful or demanding workplace conditions.
- Skilled in the use of technology and proficient in Microsoft Office.
Work Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in the office Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
- The work arrangement for this position may be on-site, remote, or hybrid, and will be determined based on the successful candidate and organizational requirements.
- Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Wage Range: $89,493.84-$102,917.92
