Job Purpose
The Junior IT & Fiber Technician provides frontline technical support to both SFN employees and community members. This position is responsible for supporting internal technology systems while serving as the primary technician for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) services within the community.
The Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting customer-premise fiber equipment, supporting community internet services, and developing knowledge of the hardware and software systems that support the FTTH network. In addition, the position provides day-to-day technical support for SFN staff, equipment, and office technology.

Duties & Responsibilities
Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for FTTH service requests and basic technical support for community members.
- Install, replace, configure, and upgrade modems and related customer-premise equipment in homes.
- Troubleshoot internet connectivity issues and assist with service restoration.
- Perform site visits to community residences to diagnose and resolve service concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, service requests, and equipment inventory.
- Assist with activation and deactivation of customer services.
- Learn and support the hardware and software platforms used to manage the FTTH network.
- Work with vendors, contractors, and senior IT staff to support ongoing FTTH operations and upgrades.
- Educate community members on the proper use of internet equipment and services.
- Assist with testing, maintenance, and monitoring of fiber network equipment.
Internal IT Support
- Provide first-level technical support for SFN employees.
- Respond to help desk requests and troubleshoot hardware, software, printer, and connectivity issues.
- Install and configure computers, monitors, peripherals, and mobile devices.
- Create and maintain user accounts, email access, distribution groups, and shared drive permissions.
- Assist with computer deployments, upgrades, and equipment replacements.
- Maintain inventory records of IT equipment and supplies.
- Document technical procedures, repairs, and solutions.
- Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff as required.
- Support basic cybersecurity practices and user awareness initiatives.
- Assist with technology-related projects and system implementations.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for IT systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Retain records/logs of all repairs and fixes, as well as a complete log of all expenses.
Collaboration
- Work with other IT team members to address complex technical issues.
- Collaborate with departments across the organization to understand and meet their IT needs.
- Communicate with subcontractors, vendors and external resources on technology solutions and repairs.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related duties.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new technology.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and work independently.
- Willingness to participate in training related to IT systems, fiber technology, and FTTH operations.
- Ability to work respectfully and professionally with community members while providing technical support and services in residential and community settings.
Assets
- Certificate, diploma, or post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Experience providing IT help desk or technical support.
- Experience with computer hardware, software, printers, mobile devices, or networking equipment.
- Experience working with internet service providers, telecommunications, fiber optic networks, or FTTH services.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, or user account administration.
- Experience working directly with community members or customers.

Work Conditions
- Frequent travel throughout the community and to community member residences.
- Combination of office, field, and residential work environments.
- Regular lifting, carrying, and installation of computer and networking equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Work performed primarily Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Occasional overtime and after-hours support may be required.
- Wage Range $28.88-$31.63/Hr. Compensation will be based on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills.
