🚨 FLOOD RISK WARNING

Posted June 12, 2025 in

We are so grateful for the rain! However, we are expecting a lot of rain (up to 120mm) over the next two days - now is a great time to get ready for some heavy rainfall!
Remove valuables from lakeshore or riverbank location, pull back at least 10 feet to avoid potential wash-away.
Check your basements! Move valuables, electronics, or things that shouldn't get wet to a higher level of the home!
Clear our your gutters and get your rain barrels set up - makes sure the water is flowing in a way that works for you!
Check your sump pump - ensure it is working well.

The Peace Region has been flagged for a Moderate Flood Hazard in the next 3–7 days. Sudden increases in rainfall may cause lakeshore flooding or river bank flooding which can effect ground or shoreline stability.

Rain is forecasted for the Moberly Lake area for June 12/13/14 2025 (Thurs – Sun)

WHEN IT RAINS IN A DROUGHT:

• Rainfall is likely to ‘runoff’ landscape to low lying areas • Heavy rainfall is more likely to increase shoreline or river bank flooding conditions, which makes ground unstable • Erosion patters are likely to quickly form which can lead to mudslides, bank sluffing, or culvert failures.

💡 HOW DO WE STAY SAFE DURING A FLOOD RISK?

• Remove any valuable items – like kayaks, canoes, or furniture – from the lakeshore, at least 15 feet away.

• Keep an eye on little ones – do not allow children to play near lakeshore or river bank edges during flood risks, water currents may change rapidly.

• Avoid recreational use during elevated risk – shorelines may become unstable / inaccessible.

• Check on low-lying infrastructure (wells, pumps, sewer systems) to ensure protection from rising waters.

• Monitor culverts and roadways for washouts, do not travel through washouts / running water on roads.
